Gimhae-based yoga educator Seomin Sook delivered a ¡°Tool-Based Yoga¡± lecture at the RYTK300+ group training session held on January 11 at the Korea Therapy Yoga Association (KTYA) Daejeon Training Center. As the accredited director of the Gimhae Oe-dong education center, she presented a highly practical curriculum focused on how yoga props can help teachers ¡°read the body¡± and guide students safely in real studio settings.
RYTK300 (Registered Yoga Teacher in Korea 300-hour) and RYTK300+ are official qualifications operated by KTYA under registered license numbers 2012-1070 and 2020-005819. The program is widely regarded as a ¡°standard¡± pathway for professional yoga teachers in Korea, supported by a large nationwide network of accredited training centers, a structured group-training system, and a post-certification ecosystem that connects graduates to teaching opportunities and continuing education. Many in the field describe RYTK300+ as a credential where certification is not the end, but the beginning of long-term professional development.
The atmosphere at the Daejeon session reflected that purpose. Participants showed intense focus, asking detailed questions such as, ¡°Why should this posture be taught this way?¡± Seomin Sook emphasized that yoga instruction is not about memorizing shapes, but about understanding a person¡¯s body and life—and that what matters most in the field is not where one studied, but the standards by which one can teach.
Her lecture highlighted the core value of tool-based yoga using blocks, straps, and wall support: improving alignment awareness, reducing unnecessary tension, and sharpening a teacher¡¯s cueing language. She noted that in real classes—where students vary widely in age, structure, pain history, and lifestyle—uniform asana instruction can increase injury risk. In this context, props become professional teaching tools that help students participate safely and help instructors deliver ¡°protective yoga¡± that makes practice accessible.
The session offered clear decision-making criteria: when to choose each prop, how to apply modifications for beginners or students with pain, and how to adjust verbal guidance accordingly. Participants responded that the training clarified how to observe bodies more accurately and why their previous cues sometimes felt vague.
Seomin Sook is the director of Seominsook Yoga Center in Gimhae, an RYTK300 examiner, an RYTK300+ training center director, and an RYTK500 certificate holder. She also serves on the KTYA board and acts as Yeongnam Regional Chair of the K-Wall International Alliance, promoting alignment-focused education across the region. With additional credentials including Level 3 Sports Instructor and Level 2 Yoga Exercise Prescription, she is known for building field-oriented education that connects theory to real outcomes.
KTYA President Youngbin Park stated that the strength of RYTK300+ lies not in impressions but in a transparent structure—who teaches what and how—and in an education system that can be reproduced consistently on the ground.
