YO&P Membership Hosts Busan Special Lecture Featuring Prof. Seung-Tae Park of Wonkwang Digital University

— ¡°Yoga Therapy Using Muscle Function¡± to Be Held on February 1

A special lecture designed to elevate yoga from ¡°simply following movements¡± to ¡°understanding how the body works¡± will be held in Busan. Yoga & Pilates Membership (YO&P Membership) announced that it will host a session titled ¡°Yoga Therapy Using Muscle Function¡± on Sunday, February 1, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Kim Yang-Hee Ashtanga Yoga Studio (3F, Daeyang Building, 5 Jungang-daero 1381beon-gil, Dongnae-gu, Busan). The event will feature Prof. Seung-Tae Park of the Department of Yoga & Meditation at Wonkwang Digital University as the invited lecturer.

This lecture is built around key principles of functional correction: the coordination between agonist and antagonist muscles, and the precise regulation of muscle length. Participants will experience a ¡°muscle-function correction sequence¡± that integrates flexibility, strength, and alignment. Rather than stopping at general stretching or pain-relief techniques, the program emphasizes applying methods after understanding the mechanisms that create movement—offering instructors ¡°teaching that can be clearly explained¡± and practitioners ¡°self-correction that reduces recurrence,¡± according to the organizers.

The session will be delivered in three main parts: (1) yoga therapy using flexibility and strength, (2) yoga therapy through muscle-length regulation and correction, and (3) yoga therapy using agonist–antagonist coordination. Participants will learn how to assess common compensation patterns seen during asana practice—such as lumbar hyperextension, shoulder elevation, and pelvic asymmetry—through the lens of muscular coordination and length control, and how to apply corrective strategies immediately in practice. A key feature is clarifying which muscles to contract or release, and when, prioritizing stable alignment and pain-free movement over aggressively expanding range of motion.

The program fee is free for YO&P Membership full members and general members, while associate members pay KRW 30,000. This lecture is offered as part of YO&P Membership¡¯s regional special-lecture series. YO&P Membership is widely known as one of Korea¡¯s largest professional communities of instructors, studio owners, and therapists, with broad participation from affiliated organizations including the International Association of Integrative Therapy (IAIT), Korea Therapy Yoga Association (KTYA), Singing Bowl Therapy Meditation Institute (SBTMI), Korea Yoga Meditation Association (KYMA), Medi Pilates Alliance (MPA Pilates), and the K-Wall International Alliance (K-WIA).

YO&P Membership reports that approximately 7,000 members are currently active. Full members can complete more than 70 professional certificate programs free of charge, which the organization describes as an ¡°evidence-based growth model¡± designed to strengthen field competence. The membership also places strong emphasis on improving instructors¡¯ professional rights—covering issues such as teaching rates, contracts, and career pathways—while expanding an ecosystem that connects education, publishing, academic conferences, and media.

The lecture will be structured as a single flow of theory–practice–feedback. It begins by teaching participants how to read a ¡°map of imbalance¡± across major joints—the shoulder girdle/scapular complex, thoracic spine, pelvis, hip joint, and ankle—based on functional roles of muscles (stabilization, mobility, and force transfer). From there, participants progress through a warm-up designed to secure a safe range of motion, a corrective sequence, and a closing protocol that supports post-session recovery. Instructors will gain practical logic for class design, including how to sequence strength, flexibility, and alignment, while practitioners will receive a checklist to recognize and correct their own movement patterns.

The lecture is open to yoga instructors and any practitioners interested in yoga therapy, and participants are encouraged to bring a personal mat and a notebook. Seong-Won Kim, Representative of YO&P Membership, said, ¡°Yoga therapy begins not with ¡®stretching deeper,¡¯ but with ¡®moving more accurately.¡¯ The balance between agonists and antagonists, and the ability to regulate muscle length, is the most realistic starting point for reducing pain and discomfort.¡± Seats may close early depending on studio capacity, and advance registration is recommended. On-site registration will be available only if seats remain.

Applications and inquiries can be made through Kim Yang-Hee Ashtanga Yoga Studio or the YO&P Membership website.
