Director Hong-Suk Jung of Dasa Yoga & Pilates (Daegu)
Expands a ¡°Recovery-Centered Class Structure¡± Through Singing Bowl Meditation Education
Director Hong-Suk Jung of Dasa Yoga & Pilates in Daegu, a studio widely trusted for its yoga and Pilates education, will operate the February Singing Bowl Basic Certificate Program and the Singing Bowl Meditation Yoga Instructor Level 2 qualification as an official training director of the Singing Bowl Therapy Meditation Institute (SBTMI), an affiliated research institute of the Korea Therapy Yoga Association (KTYA).
Director Jung currently serves as Chair of the Singing Bowl Spinal Relaxation Meditation Research Committee at the International Association of Integrated Therapy (IAIT) and as Academic Chair of SBTMI under KTYA. Her work focuses on how singing bowl sound vibration affects nervous system regulation, myofascial release, and pain reduction, particularly for middle-aged and older adults experiencing chronic lower-back pain. Bridging research and practice, her academic contributions have been directly reflected in instructor education and recovery-focused class design.
Dasa Yoga & Pilates, led by Director Jung, has earned consistent recognition in the Daegu area for offering classes that go beyond physical exercise. The studio is known for its individualized programming that carefully considers members¡¯ physical condition, stress levels, and recovery capacity. Rather than emphasizing intensity alone, its teaching philosophy prioritizes appropriate load management and nervous system recovery, an approach that aligns naturally with the integration of singing bowl meditation and therapy.
Director Jung is also the author of ¡°Enough of Chronic Back Pain in Your 40s and 50s: Singing Bowls Are the Answer¡± and has published academic papers on the use of singing bowls for alleviating lower-back pain. Her work reframes chronic pain not merely as a strength or flexibility issue, but as a matter of nervous system regulation and sensory recovery. These insights now serve as a foundational reference for recovery-centered class structures and singing bowl education programs.
The Singing Bowl Therapy Meditation Institute positions singing bowls not as simple relaxation tools, but as professional therapeutic instruments for nervous system stabilization, emotional regulation, and attentional control. By integrating research, education, certification, and field application into a single framework, SBTMI supports yoga and Pilates instructors in transitioning from intuition-based teaching to evidence-informed recovery programming.
The Singing Bowl Basic Certificate Program introduces participants to bowl structure, vibration principles, experiential sound meditation, and foundational therapy techniques. Participants observe changes in breath, heart rate, muscular tension, and emotional state, gaining firsthand understanding of how sound vibration interacts with the body and mind. The subsequent Singing Bowl Meditation Yoga Instructor Level 2 course covers individual and group session design, integration with yoga asana, pranayama, and meditation, as well as program development based on chakra and emotional energy flow. Upon passing written and practical assessments, participants earn a nationally registered private qualification recognized by the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education and Training.
These programs are systematically connected with the YO&P Membership (Yoga & Pilates Membership). Instructors who obtain certifications issued by KTYA, MPA Pilates, the K-Wall International Alliance, or the Singing Bowl Therapy Meditation Institute are eligible for a full waiver of the 180,000 KRW membership registration fee if they join YO&P Membership within one month of certification.
YO&P Membership operates as an integrated platform in collaboration with IAIT, KTYA, MPA Pilates, the K-Wall International Alliance, the Singing Bowl Therapy Meditation Institute, and the Korea Yoga Meditation Association. Designed to connect education, research, and studio operations, the membership allows full members, for a monthly fee of 10,000 KRW, to access approximately 70 nationally registered professional certificate courses as of 2025 without additional tuition or certificate issuance fees. Discounted rates are also available for advanced qualification programs, enabling instructors to design long-term professional development pathways rather than pursuing isolated credentials.
Director Jung explains, ¡°Recovery is no longer optional in yoga and Pilates classes; it has become fundamental. Singing bowl meditation is not simply an add-on at the end of a session, but a core element that elevates the overall structure and quality of teaching.¡± She adds, ¡°The education systems of SBTMI and the YO&P Membership offer both immediate practical applicability and long-term professional value for instructors.¡±
Through the introduction of these singing bowl education programs, Dasa Yoga & Pilates aims to present a structured recovery-centered teaching model to instructors and practitioners in the Daegu region, demonstrating how yoga and Pilates studios can evolve beyond exercise spaces into hubs for healing, restoration, and sustainable well-being.
