Kim Hyunju: Setting the Standard for Singing Bowl Healing Education Through 20 Years of Field Experience
Kim Hyunju, Director of the Singing Bowl Healing Meditation Institute (SBHMI) and head of Hyeonju Yoga & Meditation Center in Masan, is a veteran instructor who has worked hands-on with yoga and meditation practitioners for more than two decades. More than a teacher of techniques, she is widely regarded as a practice-based educator and researcher who has continually explored a fundamental question in the field: how the human body and mind truly recover and restore balance.
Kim serves as a senior instructor in the RYTK300+ Yoga Teacher Training Program of the Korea Therapy Yoga Association (KTYA), Director of the Gyeongnam Hub Training Center of the Korea Yoga Meditation Association, and Director of SBHMI. Across these roles, she has consistently integrated yoga, meditation, and singing bowl therapy into a single, coherent healing framework. Her core strength lies in an educational approach that connects yogic philosophy, contemporary meditation, and sound healing through the unified lens of breath, the nervous system, and consciousness.
Under Kim¡¯s leadership, the Singing Bowl Healing Meditation Institute functions as more than a training center. It operates as an integrated professional platform linking research, academic writing, publishing, lectures, and media. This structure enables instructors to grow beyond simply holding certificates and to establish themselves as trusted professionals. The institute¡¯s work reflects Kim¡¯s long-standing vision of positioning singing bowl meditation and therapy as an evidence-based discipline rather than a purely experiential or trend-driven practice.
Kim has also shared her philosophy with a wider audience through her books, A 5,000-Year Journey of Yoga Beginning with the Breath and Singing Bowl Meditation for Deep Sleep. In these works, she delivers a consistent message: when breath and sound resonance meet, profound rest becomes possible. Both books bridge classical yoga philosophy with modern challenges such as sleep disorders and chronic stress, offering accessible explanations of how singing bowl meditation supports nervous system regulation and recovery.
Building on this foundation of research and field experience, SBHMI will open ¡°Singing Bowl Basic¡± certificate courses and the ¡°Singing Bowl Meditation Yoga Instructor Level 2¡± qualification simultaneously in February across 13 authorized training centers nationwide. The program follows SBHMI¡¯s standardized curriculum, covering singing bowl structure and vibration principles, sound meditation practice, and foundational therapy techniques. It further extends into practical training for one-on-one and group sessions, as well as protocol design based on chakra systems and emotional energy flow.
Participants who successfully complete the written and practical examinations will earn the nationally registered private qualification ¡°Singing Bowl Meditation Yoga Instructor Level 2¡± (Registration No. 2019-002404), listed with the Korea Research Institute for Vocational Education & Training. The certification is recognized for its strong emphasis on real-world applicability, making it particularly valuable for yoga, Pilates, and meditation instructors. Kim emphasizes that certification is not an endpoint but a starting point, noting that the institute continues to support graduates through advanced training, operational guidance for centers, and regional healing projects.
Another notable aspect of the program is its integration with the YO&P Membership. Registered YO&P members receive full tuition waivers for the Singing Bowl Basic course, paying only the certificate issuance fee, and can attend the program at any authorized training center nationwide under the same standards. In addition, members gain lifetime free access to more than 70 professional certificate courses offered through the membership platform. This structure allows singing bowl education to connect organically with Hatha Yoga, Wall Yoga, Brain Therapy, Pilates, and meditation programs.
¡°YO&P Membership is not simply a cost benefit,¡± Kim explains. ¡°It is a learning ecosystem designed to support instructors¡¯ lifelong professional growth. From the Singing Bowl Basic course to certification, advanced training, content creation, and public lectures, the entire pathway strengthens both individual branding and professional credibility.¡±
With 20 years of field-based experience, institution-level educational leadership, and a membership-driven system for sustainable growth, Kim Hyunju has helped establish singing bowl healing education as a recognized standard within Korea¡¯s yoga, meditation, and Pilates communities. The nationwide launch of the February programs is expected to further expand this momentum and solidify the role of sound-based healing in contemporary wellness education.
