Kim Yang-hee to Hold Intensive Ashtanga Vinyasa Alignment Workshop in Boryeong

Kim Yang-hee, President of the Ashtanga Yoga Academy (RAYT) under the Korea Healing Yoga Association and Authorization LEVEL2, will lead a special workshop in Boryeong, Chungnam, interpreting the Ashtanga Primary Series through the lens of Alignment and Recovery. The program, titled ¡°Ashtanga Vinyasa Alignment: YOGA CHIKITSA¡±, applies the Sanskrit meaning of the Primary Series, Yoga Chikitsa (¡°yoga therapy¡±), to practical practice, offering participants a chance to ¡°purify body and mind.¡±

While the Ashtanga Primary Series is often judged by the depth of the poses, the true focus of practice lies in the harmony of breath, movement, and gaze, which stabilizes the body and organizes the mind. Director Kim will guide participants—from beginners to advanced practitioners—on how to safely stay within their own alignment based on the Tristhana principle (Ujjayi breathing, Asana, Drishti). Unlike workshops focused on memorizing sequences or shaping poses, this program emphasizes understanding the principles behind unstable transitions and high-risk movements in vinyasa sequences.

Kim Yang-hee¡¯s competitive edge stems from her standardized teaching language and safety-conscious approach. As an Authorization LEVEL2 instructor, she systematically teaches the Primary Series flow using LED-guided instruction while providing detailed guidance on challenging moves such as jump-backs, jump-throughs, weight-shifting during transitions, and stabilization techniques to reduce wrist and shoulder strain. Drawing from her experience running Kim Yang-hee Ashtanga Yoga Studio (formerly Satva Yoga), she coaches practitioners of varying body types, mobility, and strength levels to find their own safe alignment within the same sequence. Her hands-on adjustments focus on reading alignment, creating support points, and maintaining space for breath, rather than simply ¡°pushing into poses.¡±

The curriculum is structured around four pillars of inner strength and flow understanding:

Dynamic meditation: Enhancing focus through the alignment of Ujjayi breath, Drishti, and Asana.

Core engagement: Learning the abdominal bandha through Navasana and understanding core expansion principles.

Connecting flow in vinyasa: Approaching jump-backs and jump-throughs with foundational strength and weight-shifting knowledge, ensuring injury-free transitions, and addressing alignment points in poses like Utkatasana and Virabhadrasana.

Arm balance foundation: Practicing Bujapidasana to protect wrists and stabilize shoulders, establishing a safe base for advanced practice.

The 3-hour workshop schedule is as follows:

Part 1 (80 minutes): Full Primary Series LED-led flow experience

Part 2 (20 minutes): Ashtanga meditation for rest and energy alignment

Part 3 (80 minutes): Key alignment principles and vinyasa transitions, refining personal practice while learning hands-on techniques to assist others

This workshop is ideal for practitioners who want a systematic understanding of the Primary Series, those interested in the process and principles over perfect poses, instructors and practitioners curious about safe alignment and hands-on techniques, and anyone seeking physical and mental recovery through Ashtanga practice.

The workshop will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 1:00–4:00 PM at the Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Studio (2nd floor, 3 Donghyeon-ro, Boryeong, Chungnam). The participation fee is ₩99,000 (VAT included). Inquiries: 041-931-6416 / 010-4793-6416. Payment: NongHyup Bank 032-0441-3947-21 (Account Holder: Kang Seong-joo). RAYT Ashtanga Level 1 & 2 holders receive a 30% discount. Please bring a personal mat, towel, and comfortable yoga attire.

Following the workshop, Kim Yang-hee will conduct the Ashtanga Level 1, 4th cohort completion & certification course:

Session 1 (Mar 21): Surya Namaskara and basic standing postures

Session 2 (Mar 28): Standing sequence flow and easy pose applications

Session 3 (Apr 4): Importance of seated postures, Drishti, and breath practice

The Boryeong workshop offers a 3-hour opportunity for practitioners and instructors to rediscover the essence of the Primary Series through the language of alignment and breath, helping refine the direction of one¡¯s practice.
