Director Kim Su-jin Leads Pranayama Breathing Workshop for Aspiring Yoga Instructors
On February 8, Director Kim Su-jin conducted a special workshop on pranayama breathing for prospective yoga instructors during the RYTK300+ group course at the Daejeon Training Center.
The workshop focused on emphasizing the fundamental importance of breath in yoga and on providing a hands-on experience for participants to naturally integrate breath guidance into their future classes. Attendees examined their basic breathing patterns, paying attention to the starting point of inhalation, chest expansion, and the response of the jaw, shoulders, and abdomen. Many participants reported gaining a new awareness of their own breath, while practical principles and key tips were shared to help instructors immediately apply the exercises in their teaching.
Kim Su-jin is a yoga instructor with 20 years of experience and a certified Health Exercise Specialist (appointed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism). She currently serves as the RYTK300 Education Chair at the Korea Healing Yoga Association and as an adjudicator for the Korea Yoga Meditation Association, earning recognition for her expertise in yoga instruction and meditation. Seocho Shanti Yoga, where she leads, is a rehabilitation-focused yoga center grounded in sports medicine. All instructors study musculoskeletal anatomy and rehabilitative yoga to ensure safe practice for members with pain or injury histories.
During the workshop, participants were guided to shift from ¡°breathing to perform well¡± to ¡°breathing to feel comfortable,¡± immersing themselves in breath and meditation. Kim Su-jin emphasized that breath is the foundation of yoga and a basic method for promoting physical and mental relaxation in daily life. She encouraged future yoga instructors to prioritize not only physical movement but also breath and meditation in their teaching.
Seocho Shanti Yoga runs programs linked with Seocho Meditation and the Seocho Meditation Instructor Course, equipping aspiring instructors with the skills to guide correct breathing and meditation. Leveraging Kim Su-jin¡¯s expertise and the association¡¯s network, the center provides safe and systematic teaching methods.
